Request from Martin Manning, State Department historian:

On July 18, 1968, the United States Information Agency (USIA) opened the Foreign Press Center in Washington, DC. Next month, the Center is having a 40th anniversary celebration. I am trying to locate photos of the opening that PDAA members may have. We do not need to know where to get them (NARA is the best source) but we want to borrow (at least for the opening) any pictures that members have in their possession. The Foreign Press Center staff will return them after the opening.

Another source of pictures would have been an article in the old USIA Correspondent, the predecessor to the USIA World, the staff newspaper. The article on the opening would have appeared in the August, September or October 1968 issue. If someone has that, we are interested in getting a copy. There was also a USIA News Release (July 17, 1968) on the opening: I saw a summary of it but we are looking for the whole notice. Most of my files were sent to NARA in 2000 so we need help from USIA alumni on this. FPC will pay for all reproduction and shipping costs.

Please send photos or address any questions to ...
